If you only buy one book on shotgunning, let it be this one. Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned shooter, this book will improve your shooting. Blakeley covers the theory and practice of shooting, from body mechanics to the physics of the gun, the cartridge, the shot charge and the target (whether clay or bird). He demolishes many popular myths about shotguns and shooting, and takes the mystery out of leading the target (a stumper for many shooters). I am a weekly shooter at the skeet range, and was able to put Blakeley's guidance to beneficial and immediate use. Even as a hunter and shotgunner for some forty-five years, my eyes were opened by this incredible book. I've read the book twice, and find it to be a valuable reference work I visit again and again in the process of perfecting my shooting (my copy is full of yellow highlighted passages and dog-eared pages). Blakeley writes in a very understandable style regardless of your experience level, as he demystifies the art and practice of shotgunning. Even if you're a beginner or an armchair shooter, this book will motivate you to practice and perfect your skills. I only wish this book were around when I was fifteen!!

This is one of the better books I've read about wing and clay shooting. The author goes into a lot of detail about all aspects of shotgunning, and there's a lot of food for thought packed into this book. It's well written, fun to read, and has very sound advice for all levels of shooters. There's nothing truly groundbreaking, but if you don't pick up a few useful pointers or at least consider some of Blakeley's well-constructed advice, then I humbly suggest that you haven't read it closely enough.

This book is a must own for any serious shooter who would work to improve their skills. Mr. Blakeley gives a in depth explaination of problems and solutions that can be taken to the field to practice. His ability to convey the critical elements involved in shooting is exceptional. The years of communication skills for shooting instruction have honed his delivery into precise language. This book will give you a greater understanding of gun control in any situation.

Liked it.

I have read sections of this book over a few times now, very helpful as it covers skeet, trap and sporting clays from various perspectives. Much of it is for practical field application in sporting clays.

A very good book on clay shooting. It's not as comprehensive as some others and deals with wild bird hunting more than sporting clays.

Successful Shotgunning is now one of my reference books. Comfortable reading as the author informs and entertains with his wealth of knowledge and experience. He coaches with the awareness that there are several effective ways to hit any target. The English point of view adds even more spice to his book. Well done!

The book is OK, I learned some interesting things but it gets way to technical for me. I found the gun fitting information very interesting.
