I'm shocked how my kids are really into my music. At first my kids started listening to a lot of classic rock, then they wanted to read about them and suddenly I got nervous. There's a lot of sex, drugs and rock & roll in the history of these bands and I don't want my 15 year old thinking that if he does drugs he'll be a rock star. I know that's a big jump, but I don't want to glorify it, or ignore it ever happened.I've found a series of books that really covers the subject nicely. I bought the Kiss title and "Pink Floyd: The Rock Band" and they are equally great. I read both books before I gave them to my kids to read.First off, even if you are fan of the bands you will find out cool information or remember things you forgot about them. Secondly they don't skirt the serious stuff. While they talk about how some band members remained drug free their whole careers, they discuss the other members who battle drug addicitions. They go into detail about all of the band members and discuss pivotal moments in their careers and lives. They discuss all of the members that have ever been in the band.They don't ignore stuff, but don't glorify things either. It gives you a realistic impression of the band and their legacy. It also gets your kid away from watching reality TV and listen to Gene Simmons the way he should be heard!
