I have a much older version of this (from 5th grade in the 80s) and it is great, but out of date now. So, I thought I would get an updated one for my kids. But this is very different - many more pages more pictures and more very general information about the countries. I wanted maps. You have to thumb through way too much stuff to see the maps. This makes it difficult to open because the binding is too thick and the book does not open flat or near flat. If you are looking simply for maps of the world, this is not it. I would have returned it, but got too busy and missed the timeframe.
I had an older version that was spiral bound, which was much more appealing in the way the pages flipped. This updated version seems to have a much greater focus on the USA, so if you are looking for an atlas which such info, then this is great. We use it in our homeschool curriculum and it does the job.
This has great maps and information. However, the way it is bound does not allow the maps to lay flat and therefore, we cannot accurately study the areas of the map near the binding. This is frustrating. They could improve the way the book is assembled.
My son uses this book at school. The school suggested all students get one for home, he uses it all the time.

This is an excellent classroom atlas for elementary students. Great supplementary information preceding the maps. These classroom atlases always seem to meet the needs of classroom teachers.
