Very deceiving that this book is sold WITHOUT the audio. Why would anyone want to purchase a book with LISTENING exercises without the audio files? In the beginning, it says that you can click on an icon to access the audio files, but it didn't work for me. This is very upsetting!!!

I bought this book to have the latest updates on questions in the toefl exam but still the exam had more complicated questions especially in the speaking section. Also it is not helping with the listening. The questions in the real exam are soooo shrewed and tricky that even understaning 100% of what you listening won’t help. Toefl is an exam to make you make a mistake. It is not the best way of rating your english knowledge. This book also is not helping that much.

This book is amazing it gives you an idea of what to expect. I'll take the test next week and will update my review then.I tested 2 days ago and the examples in the book have the same structure as in the actual test. The reading part is 20 min. for each passage and the answers. Speaking was excactly the same which gives you good practice opportunities. Listening...I have to say they speak faster than on the CD. And the writing were the same.All in all this book is very helpful.

Do not purchase the kindle version. No audio included.

Don't buy this e-book from Amazon! It does NOT came with the downloadable content. This was very upsetting. I got in touch with Amazon to try to receive the content, but they put me in touch with an ETS assistant, who explained that since I purchased it from Amazon, there was nothing she could do. I'm asking for a refund now.

Very good guide for high-intermediate to low-advanced ESL students. The first 220 pages explain how the TOEFL exam works and from page 221 on there are practice exercises.

Just wanted the CD. Well... all i can say is what they offer on CD is so much easier then the test itself. The listening section is brutal on the actual exam- YOU DO HAVE TO TAKE NOTES!. Buy the Princeton review instead.

Loved this book! If I could have given 6 stars, I would have.This book would provide you with a very well rounded approach to Data Science and by that I mean truly would give you a ride though all the aspects of this field versus showing you some regression algorithm using python and call it Data Science.Book has it all - not only it leverages probably the most favorite language (python) for its examples, it also goes in details in supporting tools and eco systems. For examples, Spark - Why create something when Spark is already here and we can just use it in our work.It covered NoSQL technologies to give readers enough information to get started and weighted pros and cons of each. I especially enjoyed reading ACID, BASE and CAP theorem sections. I am familiar with them and gave presentation on exact same topic few years ago and I enjoyed the read since it covered the important key points leaving me with nice warm feeling in my stomach that unaware readers will be in a good hands!During discussion of NoSQL, ElasticSearch was introduced and entire chapter was devoted on how to leverage search capabilities to provide us with valuable results... Search is something that ElasticSearch does best! Section about Damerau-Levenshtein was great. It made you think of dirty data that is present in the real world and how you deal with it (vs giving you example with perfectly clean and ready to use data)Speaking of real world experience - this book took a step back and instead of trying to be data science book and throwing cool python libraries at you, it talked about general approach in the real word when you deal with data science projects by trying to make you think of project's research goals - Why are we doing this? This was done to help you think and to help you pick the right solutions.Another example of real world problems was their chapter on dealing with big and i mean truly big data. In some sample program, you can surely play with tens of hundreds of sample records, but what do you do with gigs or more of data? while running production servers, you are not dealing with 2-3 lines of log entries, you deal sometimes with gigs! So I was very happy to see section that talked on how you can tackle problems like that.Authors did a great job in my opinion by cloning and making it available pywebhdfs package that would work with their example of the code (they did use now outdated hortonworks sandbox that made it hard to follow in few chapters, but it was not hard to figure out where menus/buttons were moved)A nice final touch that I felt was great was section on results visualization. How would you communicate what you found to others? will you point them at some hard to read print out, OR shows them a picture/graph that makes your findings easy to read?So... many many gems in this book that would really give you a great overview of the field of data science and would get you started not only in strictly academic / demo only way, but also in real life production environment.I definitely would be re-reading this book and recommending it to my colleagues!

I've only read through page 50, but I have already found several errors. A particularly egregious one occurs in the first code listing, in which a regression model is fit through the origin even though an intercept should clearly be present. The data for the regression model is created as follows: two predictors, let's say x1 and x2, are created from the uniform(0, 1) distribution. The response = 0.4 x1 + 0.6 x2 + error, where the error term is also distributed as uniform(0, 1). That being the case, the intercept should be close to 0.5, the mean of the uniform(0, 1) distribution. You may wonder what difference that makes. Well... if the correct model is used, the model coefficients end up being close to the actual coefficients used to create the data, namely 0.4 and 0.6, instead of 0.7658 and 1.1252 as shown in the text. In addition, R-squared for the correct model is about 0.3, a far cry from the "high" value of 0.893 reported by the authors.

This includes typical data science topics such as sparse data, text mining, supervised and unsupervised learning. Data scientists tend to split into "R" and "Python" bins and this book is a shout out to "Python" . A nod is given to "R" with the availability of the RPy library and "R" popularity.The authors address scaling Python code with both optimization and using big data tools. They give a crisp overview of the Hadoop framework and the memory advantages of using Spark. Another important part of data science is working with data and this book provides an excellent overview of SQL and NoSQL databases complete with ACID and BASE concepts and contrasts. Special attention is given to graph databases arguing that this is a contender for efficiently modelling complex data.This book is great for the aspiring data science to become familiar with the data science process. This book does require a technical background in order to understand how to set up the examples and follow the theory. It would also be useful for a manager, data architect or data engineer to understand how to best support a data scientist to find business solutions by data mining gems from a business data pool.

I got halfway through this book and could not finish...main characters were just awful...very YA and way too PC and the main character's sexual inner dialogue got really old.

I find sometimes with epic fantasy that where there is a great concept, there is not always great execution. This series (I've read them all) bucked that trend.Other reviewers have already neatly summarised the plot, so I will just mention quickly what I really appreciated about the writing.Yes; there are parallels to Game of Thrones, but only really insofar as the descriptions of some geography. The writing is excellent and the dialogue smart. Like all people, there were very few who were consistently good or bad. As a reader, you are expected to pay attention and follow facinating chracter development arcs. The author writes women well (thank you for making women concerned about more than men!) and wrangles a complex storyline well and wasn't afraid to kill off characters when necessary for story cohesion.

Such a good read, I'll be buying the rest of the series as well. If you like Game of Thrones, Sarah J Maas, anything like that, you will love this book. I honestly couldn't put it down. The characters are so captivating, the story flows like water. Amazing author, amazing book. I can't wait to read the rest of the series.

I absolutely LOVED this series. It's written, similarly to ASOIAF, in a way that allows us to read in the perspective of multiple main characters and se what is going on all over the world of the story. I won't go into too much detail about what the story involves, but I will say that it involves a world where there are some people who are marked and their markings give them special powers and abilities. When I read this book, I could not put it down and I blew through the first three books in no time. I finished those three before Deathmarked came out and the only reason I have yet to read Deathmarked is because I have so much other stuff going on right now that I can't afford to get sucked into it and I know I will. I am SO impressed with David Estes work. It is a truly amazing story.

Very few authors can make me feel so strongly for the characters that I cry or laugh along with them. David Estes is one of those authors. An ugly but incredibly strong princess; a beautiful but extremely emotionally flawed princess; an autistic knight; a nobody who loves and is loved by almost everyone he meets; a young boy whose destiny is to kill rulers; and more. The story is wonderful, and the characters are incredible. You will love them, hate them, change your mind about them, and follow them as they fight for their lives and their countries. I could not put this book down.

So glad I gave this series a try! It's a rare first book that makes me want to spend money on the rest of the series, but as soon as I finished the Fatemarked I was downloading the next with no hesitation.Highly recommended for anyone looking for an expansive, immaginative fantasy world with all kinds of different characters and locations. The Game of Thrones comparisons are inevitable, but each will probably appeal more to different audiences. Fatemarked moves faster but is not dripping with detail, but for me that was a fine trade-off; I found GoT to be too much of a slog for the amount of time I can devote to reading.So here we have a fantasy land of four kingdoms constantly at war, a new and frankly terrifying enemy, and the next generation of rulers combined with the 'fatemarked', those born with a superhuman power. David Estes gradually weaves the threads of all these stories together, taking the reader through different settings (very cool Iron Forest), cultures, and belief systems. He introduces dozens of characters but impressively manages to provide them each with distinct voices.My favorite storyline was definitely Annise and Tarin, they were written with heart and humor and I really enjoyed their individual and shared development. But, for me the 'love triangle' of Roan, Gwendolyn, and Gareth fell completely flat, which I'm sorry to say because it was meant to be a main driver of the story. Roan was just kind of dopey and it was surprising to read that Gwen was "in love" with him, because their relationship always seemed more like siblings. Gwen and Raven, on the other hand, had sparkling chemistry, and I could definitely have seen them together.Despite minor shortcomings, I'm happy to rate this five enthusiastic stars, and was so satisfied when it was over! This series should have a higher overall rating, but I've seen that some readers rated it poorly because this imaginary world included heroes who were not just straight, white men and was thus "too PC". How sad for them to miss out on a truly fun adventure.

No good relatable characters in the first 200 pages. Stopped reading after that.

This was one of those because you read XYZ you might like. Probably the best fantasy book I've read in along time, right next to Dark Kings Tidings, The Name of the Wind. I couldn't put this down. Each section built a little more of the story and universe out. Loved the different story lines and while you know it is 5 series book it was very captivating in its own. Very much looking forward to reading the rest of the series.
