This thing is not a book. It can only be classified as bound paper. Kindle edition is a disaster as well. I opened it with 3 different kindle apps/hardware. Figures do not display. I got refunded by Amazon, given partial credit to purchase this so called hardcopy. What a disappointment! Do not waste your money.

This is a good supplemental study guide, but the questions are way too easy compared with the ones on the actual exam.

John R. “Jack” Schafer, PhD, is a psychologist, professor, intelligence consultant, and former FBI Special Agent. Dr. Schafer spent fifteen years conducting counter-intelligence and counterterrorism investigations, and seven years as a behavioral analyst for the FBI’s National Security Division’s Behavioral Analysis Program. He developed spy recruitment techniques, interviewed terrorists, and trained agents in the art of interrogation and persuasion. Dr. Schafer contributes online pieces for Psychology Today Magazine, has authored/coauthored six books, and has published numerous articles in professional and popular journals. He is a professor with the School of Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice at Western Illinois University.Marvin Karlins received his PhD in Psychology from Princeton University and is currently Professor of Management at the University of South Florida’s College of Business Administration. My review title says it all. Sorry to say that those who want insights from an ex FBI agent will be disappointed. So will be those who had read more than two books on personal communications. There are many good and practical ideas. Yet, it would be much better if the author had employed a better editor and made the chapters/topics more organised and structured, and the whole book more coherent.p.s. Below please find some favorite passages of mine for your reference.Friendship = Proximity + Frequency + Duration + Intensity pg4You can extricate yourself from unwanted relationships by slowly decreasing each of the basic elements of the Friendship Formula. This gradual decrease will let the unwanted person down incrementally without hurting their feelings and without seeming like an abrupt break in the relationship. In most case, the unwanted person will naturally come to the conclusion that the relationship is no longer viable and seek more rewarding interactions. Pg9In dating environments, men should make a conscious effort to cant their heads to one side of the other when approaching women or else they may be perceived as predators. It is interesting throughout with lots of real-world examples to illustrate the ideas they present. I was personally challenged to continually grow in these skills by becoming a better reader of those non-verbal signals and to be a better listener. I highly recommend this book if you also are ready to develop these relational skills.

I am tied between two stars or four stars so I averaged. It is actually a bit of each. The book basically has two ways of writing; one by examples and stories, and one by explaining the psychology of what is going on. The latter is very dry and tough to read. The examples are perfect and I wish he had included more.Imagine you get a new stereo. I can read you the specs out of the manual that tell you how make adjustments, or I can play your favorite song and show you how to make adjustments. Same information, vastly different technique. And which one will you remember? The latter.The stories in this book are fantastic examples, and the best story is at the end. There is a section on computers and how not to get ripped off on the internet, and that section was a total waste to me and likely will be for anyone under 40. The photographs that show examples are just shy of useless. The images are small and are not even cropped to what you need to know. For example if the book says look at the eyebrows on this person, well I do not need a photo of them from the waist up. That just makes the eyebrows smaller in the final image.But now that I have read this book I can see how the Like Switch works, and what to do and not to do. And it also shows you what you already do that you may not know you do. I imagine this data is available in other publications, but the FBI angle here makes the stories more interesting. In fact I encourage the author to write of more examples to inform us of something. Play our music and show us how the sound works, don't just read to us!

Briefly, I was sort of thrown into a situation where I was suddenly a landlord of 8 properties (I know, sounds strange, but true). I had to quickly get up to speed on what was required of me, what I should require of my tenants, what I needed for insurance, etc. I found this book at my local library and liked it so much that I purchased it so I can keep it handy. It's very easy to read and explains things from the ground up. It also discusses the pros & cons if you're thinking about buying rental properties but haven't yet (I skipped that section because I was already neck-deep in properties). I highly recommend this book, and the NOLO website has also been extremely helpful.

Excellent coverage of all tips and topics if you're looking for the 101 on renting out a single family home. After reading, I was able to communicate with my property manager more effectively because I could tailor my questions better. It's always easier to learn things once you know what questions to ask, and this book gave enough information to get me going in the right direction. I was able to use certain information found in this book almost immediately, with positive results. Don't expect to get in-depth with every chapter or subject matter, especially those concerning individual state or municipal laws, but you'll at least have enough know-how to keep a reasonable expectation and make appropriate decisions. Great investment!

Easy to read and very helpful! I downloaded several landlord books on my Kindle HD 7 and feel this, among a few others, was a great read and definitely helped me to provide a good landlord-tenant relationship start, and showed me where to place boundaries on requests, rent due dates, etc. The best part though was how easy to read it was! This speaks in plain English and was as uncomplicated as possible. I read through the whole book in one day and reference it frequently.

Became an unintentional landlord (needed more space/better schools for the fam, no luck selling our condo), so I needed a crash-course on the basics. This book has been very helpful for getting an overview of what all's involved, including tax issues, handling money, how to treat tenants, etc. Solid book for beginners, and then you can dig into topics on your own, or get help (from tax preparers, etc).

A good guide to almost everything you need to consider for renting out a house. The only shortfall, really, is the lack of discussion about raising rents -- a tricky topic especially for a first-time landlord.The authors should consider an additional book, on the topic of renting out part of your home -- like a mother-in-law unit or a room. The issues are similar but with some details that worry would-be landlords.

Lots of good tips in this. Went a long way to calming my fears about becoming a landlord and also gave me the ability to ask intelligent questions of those who knew more than me when I had the opportunity. Highly recommended.

First Time Landlord provides a useful introduction for anyone considering entering the property rental business. And it does emphasis that this is a business and most be treated as such. While it does not go into great depth, the book covers a wide spectrum of relevant topics and provides very useful guidance for obtaining additional information. As the book makes clear, there are many considerations involved in renting to someone, probably much more than the average person realizes. In some ways this book is a reality check for the novice thinking of becoming a landlord.
