Simone de Beauvoir certainly is an interesting choice to be featured in the Little People Big Dreams series. The content and illustrations, as usual, are beautifully written and rendered. By focusing on the positive elements of Simone de Beauvoir, the book teaches children about the importance of education, never be afraid to be critical thinkers and be courageous to change our society a fairer, better place. And what an innovative figure on feminism development.But that's only as far I could go about loving the book.As an adult, I could embrace and appreciate how Simone de Beauvoir and Jean-Paul Sartre "lived their love story in their own unique way," but I am not all sure how I want to explain to my child about their uniqueness of courtship if he ever asks at his age. And don't forget de Beauvoir's controversial sex scandal with one of her students that eventually got her teaching licence revoked permanently. I have no reservation about de Beauvoir's contributions as a philosopher, a writer, a feminism advocate. Her name, I concur, should be introduced to younger generations, but probably not to children under age of 10. True, her personal past, though, had nothing to with de Beauvoir's accomplishments, but I strongly believe role models to young children, especially, should be someone with positive images. To simply put, Simone de Beauvoir was too complex a person to be featured in a picture book for young children.I enjoyed the book myself, but I probably won't include this addition to my child's personal library for at least few extra years.

Love. Love. Love. And I truly appreciate introducing historical women who have changed the world or left an indelible footprint on it. In particular, I love the introduction of strong, intelligent, independent women like Simone de Beauvoir, who arguably paved some of the foundational pieces of the women’s movement. However, I felt this particular book didn’t go quite deep enough. While I appreciate that the intended audience is children, there has to be enough information to impress upon the reader why this particular woman was important. It does very little good to introduce children to the most important feminist in history if you don’t first explain feminism and why it’s important. I believe this can be accomplished in a manner that is appropriate for children, but that didn’t happen here.Despite that bit of disappointment, her independent lifestyle, academic pursuits, and social activism are all discussed in the book and she is certainly a worthwhile figure to introduce to children.Not my favorite in this series, but still worth a read.Note: I received this book from the publisher via Netgalley. I pride myself on writing fair and honest reviews.

I am becoming a huge fan of the "Little People, Big Dreams" series. There are so many great people, but many biographies go unread. This series peaks the interest of young readers with basic, simple facts about the person with the hope that they will do further investigation on their own. This was not my favourite in the series as I found it a bit dry and may not be of interest to young readers, but it was still a good addition to the series.Simone de Beauvoir was born to a well-to-do family, who lost their fortune, yet she had received a good education so was able to support herself. Her father had proclaimed that "she thinks like a man" which really was an insult when you think about it. She chose not to have children, but become a writer (even today when a woman states that she does not want children, eyebrows are raised). She wrote a lot about women's rights. She pretty much became a feminist before there were women recognized as such (back then they were called trouble-makers!). I must admit to not knowing about Simone de Beauvoir. Her story is told with historical context as well as having a timeline at the back of the book. The illustrations are large and vibrant and add much to the text. I think this is a good series and book to be in any school library. It shows children that you can make a difference if you believe in something and do whatever you can to change things that are wrong. I also like that these books can be used with older students to help them decide who they would like to learn more about. A Social Justice project could be inspired by these books. The publisher generously provided me with a copy of this book upon request. The rating, ideas and opinions shared are my own.

The stories were good, but there were missed opportunities to make them more interesting and less predictable. Oh and the only "wicked" lord was the first one. My main problems, though, were the grammatical mistakes. You can call it editing issues if you want, but if the mistake is the word "then" instead of "than" and vice versa, I have to assume it's the writer, not the editor; otherwise, how would it have the wrong word there in the first place? Spell check or autocorrect did not switch them! That is almost as unforgivable as using the wrong "your" for "you're!"

I randomly bought this because the author is new to me and the stories seemed sweet and romantic. I just finished a book that turned out to be heavy on the erotic and steamy scenes so I was hoping this book was going to help me regain the innocence I lost (roll eyes hahaha). Anyway, this book was not an entirely wholesome and clean romance but I enjoyed reading it.If you prefer a perfectly edited and historically accurate description of the culture and norms and etiquette of the time period of the story then this book might not be for you. I did not mind so I just read on and enjoyed it. Each book has its well-balanced characters. The heroines are sweet, innocent and yet shows maturity and genuineness. The heroes are titled, handsome, dashing and charming and with just a little bit of intensity to them. I like that each book has its own unique plot.

Finding herself in a seedy part of town, she is rescued by Ryker, who agrees to help her, and subsequently falls madly in love with her.Now that I've finished the book, I am curious to know what happens with the cousin - so I'm hoping his story is included in one of the later books in the series.My Duke's Deception4 StarsMatthew (a friend of the two heroes from the previous books) is on a self imposed mission to find his runaway sister, while Ella is an orphaned former lady who is trying to provide for herself after her father dies and leaves her with nothing. When Matthew accidentally causes her to lose her job, he enlists her help as a translator to continue searching for his sister.While the storyline isn't unbelievable, the timeline is. I'm pretty sure they go from barely meeting to engaged in less than a week. Otherwise, though, I enjoyed the characters and the book as a whole.

The characters were engaging, but the situations felt contrived and unrealistic to the time period. Perhaps if each had been developed more fully into a standard-length novel, the author would have had more space to weave nuance into the plot. I enjoyed the Cinderella-style rescue of the heroine in the the third book the most, as the heroine had more to overcome than her own impulsiveness.

Each book had similarities but still different enough to be enjoyed. Characters were likeable although with flaws and harmful past experiences. Enjoyed reading of previous family or friends is book two and three. Appreciated the epilogue.

I always love a strong woman in a books. They were willing to help others and able to make a difference in the world. The hero was able to see this in them and able to fall in love with them because of this.

I really liked the Wicked Lords of London and how fast they fell when they met that special heroine. It proves the adage that former Rakes make the best husbands!

Interesting characters and believable plots. Thoroughly enjoyed all three of this series. Didn't want the stories to end. Tammy handles all aspects of her stories very well!

If you are buying this book to learn more about the architecture of the day you will not receive much by way of education. For example, page 10 is labeled Designs for Windows and has very clear drawings of 18 different styles of windows. However, there are no explanations or terms for the details. These pictures are from original plates. They were used when people were designing or choosing their new business building or home; in other words, pages of a catalogue. Some of the pages have full views of the outsides of the buildings and homes which are lovely to look at but again, no real explanations. Later in the book there are a few more identifying comments but for the most part nothing educational. It has some very nice eye candy for the amateur architectural historian. NOTE: this site says it has 80 pages but this includes the inside of the cover, etc. There are 75 total plates.

The plates are good scan quality, beautiful and useful, but I expected a book I wouldn’t flip through in two minutes! Would buy again, but it’s pamphlet length and you should be advised that’s what you’re getting.

Very good to get ideas from for restoration or dollhouse projects. Has lots of plates to chose from. Would recommend for those who wish to get ideas for Victorian restoration projects.

I very much enjoyed this book. As one of the 1-star reviewers notes, much of this information can be found online, including at the authors' own website. However, as the archivist for a large library of how-to books and materials for a MakerLab at a school, I support this book quite seriously — it's enabled me to provide short, immediately-useful education to colleagues, parents and administrators at my school, and to provide one-stop shopping for a design/Maker-oriented project for many colleagues. I've watched parents' eyes and children's open in wonder as they begin to understand WHAT electricity is, and HOW it flows and moves. It's impressive, interesting, and eye-opening. And even though this book is //ONLY// a pamphlet, it's especially valuable in a MakerSpace or Design Lab because it's collecting a broad range of ideas from all over the internet in one place. A useful introduction on paper where one can find it, is worth all the unfindable websites in the world.

Don't buy this "book". Don't get me wrong, squishy circuits are great, but this is a glorified pamphlet of very few pages containing information you can easily find online. I can't believe that I paid over $11 for it. Huge waste of money.

not enough material and background the website is better.

Can't wait to use this with my students. An excellent way to help them learn about electricity.
